This position responsible for driving forward the DevOps team while being involved in all levels of our technology stack (cloud and physical infrastructure). A key responsibility will be the upkeep and development of our infrastructure services while focusing on disaster avoidance.  Ensure management receives data necessary to make strategic and tactical decisions.  The position requires the optimisation of systems configuration, monitoring, and performance.

Making infrastructure, software and architectural recommendations is a core part of this role and although being hands on is not a requirement of the role there is an opportunity for the candidate to do so, should they wish to.

Key Responsibilities

As the manager of the DevOps team, you'll work with all aspects of IT infrastructure in the company. In particular, you'll work closely with our software developers to ensure they have the tools they need to do their job. You'll also liaise with the software test team to implement Continuous Integration and Delivery tools.

You’ll also be directly responsible for the line management of the DevOps team including day to day management, resource planning, creating and implementing individual personal development plans and recruitment.

Performance, scalability, resilience and security are crucial to us so you'll be thinking of this constantly and improving where you can. The team carry out some occasional out of hours work will be for upgrades, maintenance and major incident support, as a DevOps manager you’ll be expected to be available in the event of a major escalation.

You will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the development and optimisation of systems, applications, and infrastructure
  • Automating manual processes
  • Providing oversight, standardisation and validation of systems and application architecture
  • Designing of containerised applications, running on highly available, cloud and physical based nodes
  • Recommending changes to existing hardware and operating system infrastructure including patches, users, file systems and kernel parameters
  • Acting as an escalation point to troubleshoot application and operating system problems and suggest possible performance tuning
  • Working with database and application teams and partners to gather infrastructure requirements for new projects and expansion to existing applications
  • Working closely with other technical team members and departments to recommend solutions and resolve priority issues in a timely manner
  • Interacting with multiple internal customers and external vendors and partners to provide quality customer service
  • Providing mentoring, training, guidance and escalation assistance for the DevOps team
  • Designing, implementing and supporting the software development tool stack from top to bottom in consultation with the development and testing teams
  • Support the team in automating the build, test, packaging and deploy pipeline using existing tools or writing your own
