The Role

This is a role in which you will contribute to the continuing advancement of our testing approach and will need an understanding of CI and automation, from a tester’s perspective, and of relevant test-driven techniques. Advancing our automated test capability will be a part of the job, as will refining and conducting manual tests, where appropriate.
You will need to be skilled at testing software in an Agile environment, understanding how to develop tests from requirements, and conducting exploratory tests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implementation of automated tests and running them in a Continuous Integration framework, based on GitLab.
  • Ensuring tests are aligned to requirements that are produced in an Agile way, including, where required, production of scenarios as a prelude to development.
  • Testing across a wide variety of software: APIs, User Interfaces and Databases.
  • Ensuring thorough coverage in the testing of new functionality.
  • Applying regression testing, as required in key points of the release cycle, and continuing with our drive to extend automation to improve coverage and shorten test cycles.
  • Design and development of automated test scenarios using the Gherkin Language.

Skills Profile

Essential:

  • Bachelors or master’s degree in computer science or a related subject.
  • Experience with test automation tools, for example, Cucumber, Selenium, and cross-browser testing platforms.
  • Confident and precise execution of manual scripted tests, with an ability to automate such tests where appropriate.
  • Ability to undertake exploratory testing.
  • Knowledge of HTTP and Web Services.
  • Experience in testing complex web-based applications.
  • Ability to program and execute automated tests in JavaScript.
  • Good knowledge of version control systems, ideally Git.
  • Excellent team player, working with testers, developers and management to ensure that work is being done consistently and in the right way.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to seek and absorb information and plan your own work.
  • Extensive experience of Agile practices: Kanban principles would be ideal but other practices would be beneficial
  • Good communication skills, able to clearly articulate your thoughts, receptive to the views of others and clear with the team and other stakeholders about your work.

Desirable:

  • Practical knowledge of the JavaScript programming language, as applied to automated testing.
  • Experience of testing across multiple browsers, using systems such as BrowserStack.
  • Any experience with traffic control software to simulate network conditions such as impairments.
  • Experience of at least one of the following operating systems: Windows, Mac or Linux.
  • Some knowledge of shell scripting.
